Personality and human behavior are prominent subjects in the study of psychology. The late 1920s gave rise to the understanding of people and their emotions and psychological behaviors. At Harvard, a developed Dr. William Marston laid the foundation for what is now known as DISC Theory. The purpose of the theory, which has since been transformed into an assessment, is to identify and communicate how a person may interact based on their potential actions and personality characteristics.

The Responsibility of the DISC Assessment

The intended purpose for a DISC Assessment encompasses everything from knowledge and awareness of human behavior to being able to potentially predict situations and possibly avoid problems. Walter Vernon Clarke translated Marston’s research and findings into a more useable platform. This assessment has been used across various disciplines with the same goal of increasing productivity within groups of people by acknowledging strengths and weaknesses in personality, as well as predict reactions to various situations with the reciprocal goal of reducing conflict.

Traits for Theory

There are four traits for DISC Theory: dominant, influence, steadiness, and compliant. The principle is that any person has the make-up of these four characteristics to different degrees. The purpose of the assessment is to analyze a person’s characteristics and ensure they are in the most capable and progressive environment.
